I received a post card via snail mail claiming to be from a Forest Hill High School in Chesapeake, VA. Apparently it's so important for me to update my alumni info for their directory project that they felt the need to put a toll free number on the card not once but three times, and claim it needs to be done within 7 days. I've never even heard of this school... clearly some kind of scam, probably collecting data to sell.
I just received a post card in the mail, directing high school alumni to call 1-800-230-0601, and update their high school directory information and listing.

Got a call from 800-366-1962 claiming that it's Chase Fraud Prevention Unit leaving a voicemail for me to call back with a reference to a certain case number. I called 800-935-9935 (Chase Customer Service) and inquired about the call and the voicemail. They researched it in their database and responded that 800-366-1962 IS NOT A CHASE NUMBER but rather some sort of a SCAM. I will surely block this number.
I got this call and it actually wasn't a scam. I bought something from overseas and they noticed the charge on my card. They didn't freeze anything, just wanted to confirm the purchase. I called the bank directly just to be sure and she saw the call on my file. Fraud protection got on the phone and they confirmed everything quickly. I didn't verify the phone number, but in this case it was true.
800-230-0086 just called our business claiming that they were calling to renew our account and wanted to know if we didn't renew on purpose. Clearly trying to pull a play on words scam with my secretary. Thankfully she didn't fall for their BS. They were hoping to get her to say the word YES then record it and try to send us a bill, like so many other scumbag companies out there. We have NEVER dealt with this company before, nor had we ever heard of them, and we will NEVER deal with them. Also, if this company sends us some type of invoice or bill in the postal mail, I WILL show up on their doorstep with the State Police and the DE District Attorney's office in tow, and I will file charges against them for attempted fraud. Found out what the deal is in my case. It is Comcast calling my new cell phone number. Comcast is trying to reach the previous person who had this number.
This 1-800-266-2278 number called my new cell phone number. I let the call go to voice mail. Caller claimed to be Comcast. Message was about a scheduled service appointment. I have never given Comcast my new cell phone and do not have any appointment scheduled.
I got a call 3 times in one day and they said nothing's wrong with your account and the automated voice system says pnc lost prevention so now I have to deal with pnc people AGAIN! I mean seriously ! This is what makes me want to not have a bank account the customer service blows totally.
This number is legit. I literally just got off the phone with a Pnc rep and she confirmed this number is an automated service they use when they suspect suspicious activity on your account. They are just trying to make sure the purchases were made by you. They do not ask for anything but your zip code and last 4 digits of your card number, which they already have when they call. You are just reconfirming this info. TOTALLY NOT A SCAM!
Cris is indeed correct. My PNC agent just verified that 800-225-5671 IS a valid PNC number for Debit Card fraud protection. That said, anyone with concerns about the validity of this or any number reportedly coming from PNC should simply contact PNC directly and follow their instructions. Thanks!
Got a call from this # called ID just said toll free. I don't have a AMEX card can we say fake. Husband just filled out a loyalty card for CVS and put home phone on it( I told him not to put a number on it). The day after he turned in the form I started getting 5 to 6 calls a day. Coincidence maybe or maybe not.
This is NOT American Express. I received this call couple times in last 30 days. My balance is $0.00. I called the REAL customer service number on the back of my card and confirmed my account is in EXCELLENT standing. No legitimate service will ever call and ask for your cc account no. and definitely not your social security number. NEVER give this information do anyone who calls you unsolicited. And do not call back any such numbers. Call the official customer service numbers on back of your cc.
Indeed this number is one of the many 800 numbers belonging to Amex. They call almost at all hours, any day of the week but not outside the 8am to 9pm allowed window. They just want the money you owe them.
Received this call on the answering machine at work, telling us that it wasn't a marketing call, but a personal call regarding our American Express account, leaving this number as a 24-hour call back...they said to have your account # ready and that any representative could help.OUR COMPANY DOESN'T HAVE AN AMERICAN EXPRESS ACCOUNT...NEITHER DO ANY EMPLOYEES!!BEWARE!!
Yes, this really is American Express, although I agree with Richard's comment that they need a better protocol. They should use their regular 800 number for customers to call back because I too refused to give out my account number, name or SSN to a caller from an unknown number.The reason for their call was because my balance was too high ($5,000) for a new account. (My account has only gone through one billing cycle.) Even though my closing date hasn't passed yet and there is no payment due for another 2-1/2 weeks, they stopped charging privileges on the account until I make my next payment. Apparently they do this for new customers until the customer establishes a charging and payment history.

It's not a fake, get a grip! It's AMEX you dope. If you have an account with them, call them back....if not, they probably don't want you as a customer!
